Abstract
Content
THIS paper deals with the general application of stress analysis to automobile body design. It attempts to give a picture of the overall approach and application of stress analysis to the automobile body.
The body structure is described from a stress engineer's viewpoint. Various design loads are given, followed by a discussion on how the overall structure sustains these loads. Detailed analysis of various body components is considered.
A general outline of proof testing the final body is given. This discussion describes the various tests and gives the purpose behind the running of each test.
