The Storage, Analysis, Failure Evaluation, and Reclamation (SAFR) program was developed for the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM) Integrated Materiel Management Center (IMMC) Aviation Support Directorate (ASD) Aviation Engineering Support Division Depot Maintenance Engineering Team (DMET) in Corpus Christi, Texas. It is a program that will track part rejects, analyze reject causes, and support engineered repairs on aircraft parts scheduled for disposal. It was developed to analyze high dollar, flight safety parts and also to supply critical components to the U.S. Army fleet. The three objectives of the program are to: (1) reduce maintenance costs, (2) increase readiness, and (3) enhance flight safety. The SAFR program categorizes over 1000 part rejects in the U.S. Army Aviation inventory. The part reject information has been used to support component improvement programs and life-limited part-extension projects. Moreover, it has been used to support the repair engineering efforts producing value engineering (VE) savings of over $35 million as well as operating and support cost reduction (OSCR) program savings of over $3 million. The SAFR program has operated since 1989 with expected continued acceptance in the U.S. Army Aviation community.
