- Although many individuals resist the use of statistics on the basis that it represents a source of confusion, the fact is that in order to sample, statistics must be implemented. The same individuals who choose to ignore the use of statistics, promote the use of sampling because it provides a simple and economical means by which a total picture may be obtained through the examination of only a few items. What these individuals fail to realize, however, is that it is not possible to make sense out of a sample result without the use of statistics. Furthermore, a sample cannot even be drawn without a statistical approach to the problem.
