- Increasing manufacturing costs have exhausted possible savings in manufacturing operations, and management must turn to the area of indirect (burden or overhead) costs to effect economies necessary to meet competition. Statistical maintenance control, as discussed in this paper, offers a well-planned and documented means of controlling such costs and of pinpointing excessive maintenance overhead. This is not an inventory system but a month-to-month, year-to-year analysis of maintenance dollars.
