SOFIA Aircraft Operations

United Airlines (UAL), the largest employee owned airline in the world, will serve as a valuable member of the USRA SOFIA Team. With 564 commercial jet aircraft, UAL brings extensive maintenance and operating experience, economies of scale and a worldwide support network to the SOFIA program. Under contract UAL sold a Boeing 747-SP to NASA and will manage the flight operations and maintenance in the latter part of 2001.
