TODAY, OUR CAPABILITY to design fighters for enhanced Situation Awareness is very limited. The impacts of Situation Awareness on fighter performance is just now being understood and articulated, despite the fact that Situation Awareness has historically been regarded by fighter pilots as a dominant factor in air combat. The Situation Awareness Metrics Program as is discussed in this paper offers a balanced blend of operational and technical analysis, and, consequently provides definitions of Situation Awareness at an engineering and design level of detail.
