- Continuous reduction in product development time of two wheelers has put a lot of pressure in design verification. Although computer aided engineering helps to predict the structural worthiness of the components, modeling the simulations correctly is a challenge, especially in case of dynamically loaded components in engines. The engine components are subjected to predictable internal loads and unpredictable external loads. Presently the design is verified by static simulation, the results of which are correlated with that of prototype testing. However, dynamic simulation will improve the accuracy of the results. This paper is an attempt to graduate from “correlation of static simulation and testing results” to “matching of dynamic simulation and testing results”. The present study focuses on the computer simulation of external dynamic loads on a scooter crankcase and cover variator, using finite element models and controlled part and assembly level testing in the laboratory.
