Authors Abstract
Content
A new, self-expanding Methacrylate adhesive is compatible with thermoplastic regrind during reprocessing. The free-radical-based adhesive cures and expands at room temperature. Expansion is accomplished with an inert gas that is generated internally.
Unlike thermosetting adhesives, the microstructure of the cured adhesive permits intimate blending with thermoplastic melt, with little if any effect on melt flow. No hazardous products are emitted by the adhesive during reprocessing. Physical properties of the remolded adhesive-bearing plastics are similar to those of the plastics without adhesive.
