Initial work on the development of a MATLAB-based software toolbox for modeling rotorcraft interaction with ship deck surfaces and securing hardware is described. The software combines tools for aeromechanical modeling of rotorcraft, with a flight simulation tool and a multibody analytical approach, to achieve this goal of being able to encompass a complete deck-handling simulation and analysis package. The complete toolbox, to be developed as part of a Navy-sponsored research program, promises to provide new analysis capability for personnel involved in the design and use of DI securing hardware, pre-test planning, and post-test analysis support. The tool builds upon past analytical work and software development at CDI, and is designed to leverage the inherent flexibility and features of the MATLAB software environment.
