For many companies, the ability to innovate quickly and effectively is a matter of survival. IBM has studied leading manufacturers worldwide and captured the key practices for using the Virtual Product to support innovation throughout Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). These key practices, centered on organization, process, and technology, address the capability to collaborate and innovate through the pervasive use of a Virtual Product. This paper discusses these practices and reveals the results of a global, multi-industry benchmark measuring how well participating companies compared against world class.
