Authors Abstract
Content
The presented work investigates the use of aftertreatment system packaging as a primary tool for SCR system optimization. Urea doser integration and the formation and removal of urea-based system deposits are investigated. Generalized best practices are provided for elimination of urea and urea-decomposition byproduct deposit formation in the exhaust tailpipe, within the aftertreatment body and on the SCR core face. The impact of improved urea mixing designs on urea vaporization and reactant distribution is discussed. The result of packaging optimization alone increases the test system NOX reduction over the HD FTP from 47% to 82%, while eliminating urea deposits within the system.
