This paper will describe the SAE GLOBAL MOBILITY DATABASE and STANDARDS SEARCH DATABASE. Ways to access these bibliographic retrieval systems will be explained.
End-user searching through the ORBIT Search Service is valuable for computer literate engineers and information professionals. LITSEARCH, a fee-based service provided by SAE, offers a literature search of the SAE databases, conducted by an SAE information professional. The SAE Magnetic Tape Lease Program offers access to SAE data through established company computer networks.
Software related to vehicular technology is an area of development for SAE. UNSearch, SAE's initial computer software offering, is based on the Unified Numbering System for Alloys and Metals and was jointly developed by SAE and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). TECH LIT, a bibliographic retrieval package, based on 1986 and 1987 technical paper titles and subjects, is also described.
SAE's ventures into “electronic publishing” will address the needs of engineers working in computer oriented industries and a computer oriented world.
