This paper describes the background for the Pilot's Associate program with emphasis on its technical goals. It describes how the technical concept is being implemented in both hardware and software for the planned flight simulation environment. It provides an early description and assessment of the advanced computing and machine intelligence technologies that are being used in the program and how these technologies might be applied to another type of combat aircraft, a helicopter or rotorcraft, In a Rotorcraft Pilot's Associate.
