Aerodynamic forces act on a ground vehicle in motion. With increasing of velocity, the effect of side winds on vehicle becomes so important that it even be the main factor causing accidents of high-speed vehicle. In this paper, the research on high-speed vehicle handling and stability in side winds has been operated by simulation with ADAMS software, considering the real vehicle experiment is very dangerous for vehicle and driver.
In this paper, vehicle performance in side winds is investigated. Side winds are sorted and side winds database is established. The research is carried out by comparing the response of steady state with transient state using various side winds. Analysis and study the reaction of driver and the steering state of vehicle. The main parameters, which have important effect on vehicle steering stability in side winds, are pointed out. The rules of vehicle handling stability in various side winds are established.
