- There is a strong need across many aerospace programs for software that will assist the display format designer to perform the following tasks easily and rapidly: develop display format concepts; produce prototypical graphic/text/video formats on computer screens; develop menu trees; animate certain features such as dials and gauges; demonstrate the displays; test the prototypical display formats with typical users; rapidly revise the display formats based on testing and customer input; and print out copies of the formats for inclusion in reports. It is desirable that all of these tasks be performed with relative ease by a non-programmer equipped with a graphics workstation and the appropriate software. This paper identifies 50 functional requirements that should be met by such a rapid display prototyping system, and categorizes these requirements by criticality.
