Reliability and Maintainability -A Look at the Rolls-Royce RB.211

This paper addresses the Reliability and Maintainability aspects of the Rolls-Royce RB.211 high by-pass engine, which entered Airline service more than 13 years ago. Improvements in Reliability a new approach to engine management, both in-shop and on-wing, and the importance of Maintainability features are discussed. Reference is also included to performance retention over extended calendar periods, and the eventual achievement of extremely high rates of Reliability, as the various lessons learned over the years are applied to derivative engine models.
