Metal finishing operations normally use and store large amounts of toxic, corrosive, oxidizing, organic additives and flammable chemicals; ranging from cyanides and fluorides to sulfuric acid, etc.
Establishing and maintaining a safe and healthful workplace per OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard (1986) is primarily the employer's responsibility but employees have responsibilities, too.
Often, on-the-job safety isn't an issue until an accident occurs, leading to serious injuries, lost production and expensive workers’ compensation claims.
The present paper discusses anticipation, recognition, measurement, magnitude and control of health hazards arising in plating operations.
