Gas turbine engine simulators hereinafter referred to as simulators, have been established as an integral tool for testing the Full Authority Digital Electronic Controllers (FADEC) of gas turbine engines. Recently it has become evident that these tools are extremely important and useful in three additional roles: Namely, aiding in hardware design verification during the development stages of the FADEC, helping with certification of the FADEC software, and providing a means to adequately include engine FADEC’s in System Integration Laboratories (SIL). This work details the simulators’ role in these activities. In addition, important enablers are discussed. These enablers include high fidelity Component Map Engine Models (CMEM), CMEM validation with real engine test data, auto coding, real time programming techniques, high speed data transfer (via TCP/IP), and a window’s type Graphical User Interface (GUI).
