- The Radial Dual Mass Flywheel (R.D.M.F.) is a new generation of high performance filter for transmission and driveline torsional vibration. This new Dual Mass Flywheel (D.M.F.) uses straight springs arranged radially. The stiffness is not linear. For small torque values the stiffness is very small and improves characteristics during creep condition and idle at neutral. The design allows more space to be left free on the outside diameter of the primary flywheel so that inertia can be added with less relative mass. This paper describes the design of the new D.M.F. concept, and illustrates its characteristics and the performance as measured in a vehicle.
