This paper points out that the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of in-vehicle multiplex networks is largely determined by the EMC of the transceiver ICs, being the interface between the network nodes and the wiring harness. Test setups and procedures for conducted immunity and emission measurements are used for the evaluation of single- and dual-wire transceiver ICs implementing the network concepts SAE/J1850/VPW, single wire CAN, fault tolerant CAN and high speed CAN. Tentative qualification limits for this evaluation concept are proposed for both electromagnetic immunity and emission. The performance of toady's components relative to the suggested qualification limits is shown using single wire CAN and high speed CAN as examples.
