QUAD TILTROTOR: A SOLUTION FOR INTRA-THEATER LIFT

The quad tiltrotor (QTR) is presented as a solution for intra-theater lift with capability for vertical envelopment. The process for selecting this unique configuration is reviewed. A QTR baseline configuration using V–22 rotor lift/propulsion system is defined. A road map identifying advanced technologies that could be inserted into the baseline configuration is presented. The result of the technology infusion is a 20-ton lifter at 4,000 feet and 95°F. Finally, risk mitigation is discussed along with progress being made on reducing risk.
