THIS paper points out that high-power substratosphere flight will require a close coordination of airplane, engine, and propeller designers in order to insure the most efficient conversion of power. If this coordination is not done, substantial penalties in propeller performance will be obtained.
Substratosphere flight with high powers is going to require propellers which are appreciably heavier than present ones. However, although weights will increase, it is expected that the upward trend in specific weights can be reduced.
