The Australian automotive industry has recently be subjected to many new influences both from home and overseas. The “World Car” concept, new Government regulations, electronic developments, market shifts and the general economic depression have all combined and play an important role affecting the critical decisions of the automotive manufacturers. These far reaching decisions have made a major impact on associated industry and not the least affected has been the specialised component suppliers. This paper addresses the problems facing the suppliers and the attempts being made to maintain a viable industry.
