Abstract
Content
Diesel traction is in a period of rapid progress in Europe. Large numbers of 0-6-0 Diesel electric shunters are in service in many countries. Diesel electric transfer and mainline locomotives with medium speed engines are beginning to appear. Hydraulic transmissions and high speed engines, which have been used for a long time already in railcars and in three-car train sets, are beginning to appear in switchers and in mainline locomotives. 1500 rpm V-12 engines of 900 - 1000 HP. are built in substantial series in France and Germany. Efforts towards international standardization have been started.
