Abstract
Content
The Author looks at future vehicle engine design in the light of likely fuel quality and availability and future environmental legislation. He concludes that the steady evolution of the reciprocating internal combustion engine will continue and that alternative engine forms are unlikely to make any significant impact over the next twenty or thirty years. The two stroke engine offers substantial potential advantages in a number of areas but only time will tell whether the problems which have thwarted it in the past have been, or can be, overcome.
