Position Sensors for Hydraulic Cylinders

There are several types of transducers that can be used to measure piston position of a fluid power cylinder. This paper discusses and compares four sensing technologies; encoder, magnetostrictive, potentiometer, and inductive. Application concerns are also discussed.
