- For large format lithium-ion cells used in electric (EV) and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) applications, the ability to get maximum battery performance in a limited space over an extended period of time is critical. For these cell manufacturers, the durability of the battery separator is becoming an increasingly important factor in the cell design. CelgardĀ® polypropylene (PP)-based membrane separators are tolerant to electrochemical oxidation at high voltages and provide sustained rate capability and low shrinkage at elevated temperatures. In the following paper, industry standard test methods and the resulting data are presented to help cell manufacturers evaluate separator options for optimizing the performance of their EV or HEV battery designs.
