Plastic Fenders: An Emerging Market?

Materials are rapidly being developed that offer an alternative to steel for automotive exterior body panel applications. The issues of weight savings, investment cost reduction, and ease of design modification have driven OEMs to look at composite materials. This paper focuses on front fenders (wings) component and analyzes the potential of plastic penetration for this component.
