Passenger and Freight Maglev for the US

First generation Maglev systems have been developed in Japan and Germany and will operate commercially shortly after 2000 AD, carrying passengers between Tokyo-Osaka, and Hamburg-Berlin. Maglev will be a major mode of transport in the 21st Century. In the US, intercity truck type freight will be a bigger market for Maglev than passenger transport. A National Maglev Network is described that would serve the entire US. The payback period for the Network is a few years. Technology improvements are described that could reduce the cost of 2 way Maglev guideways from the present 30 million dollars per mile to 10 million dollars per mile. A proposed project in Florida to demonstrate this advanced technology is described.
