Overland Transportation of Heavy-Lift Cargo

The land transportation of oversize, overweight cargo must be planned and executed with due consideration given to the specialized hauling equipment used and the impact of that equipment on the road surface. This paper examines the various types of hauling equipment currently in use and the engineering considerations associated with the use thereof. The methods are demonstrated by means of an example using the transportation of a 350-ton steam generator.
