- A phase of the OTAC responsibility is the design, development, production, and field servicing of combat and tactical vehicles. Specific objectives sought in these vehicles are functional design, mobility, reliability, floatability, economy of operation, and performance. Technical data are presented on basic truck chassis from 1/4–16 ton. Continuing efforts are being made to improve the military fleet. Hydrostatic drive and electric drive vehicles are two types undergoing intensive research. By following a broad spectrum of design and research activities, more effective military equipment will be developed.
