This paper summarizes some of the various types of gas turbine engine configurations that can be used to supply compressed air or gas to a helioopter rotor for pressure-jet propulsion. The problems involved in the design of the powerplant - the optimization of the overall performance of the helicopter, for example - are also discussed. Attention is given to the effect of variations in the powerplant operating parameters on performance, and to specific fuel consumption characteristics that result from the choice of control system. Finally, the trend'f future development of the pressurejet system, and current problems associated with certain system components, are briefly reviewed.
