- The use of Olefinic Thermoplastic Elastomers for painted exterior automotive parts has increased steadily during recent years. The success of these applications has lead to the first use of an Olefinic Thermoplastic Elastomer for painted front and rear bumper covers on a domestic 1984 model automobile.This paper will examine the use of Olefinic Thermoplastic Elastomers for bumper covers; discussing the physical characteristics of the material, design parameters, processing and tooling considerations, decorating the bumper covers and the economics involved in using Olefinic Thermoplastic Elastomers for bumper covers.
