Authors Abstract
Content
MIRA has conducted a collaborative research programme to establish an objective measurement technique for on-centre handling quality. On-centre handling refers to the steering behaviour on and about the straight ahead driving position, and is particularly important at higher road speeds where it has become a major safety and refinement issue.
By considering the process by which on-centre handling is evaluated subjectively, a number of elemental characteristics has been identified. The resultant test technique has been validated against a formalised version of the subjective process. Analysis has shown a high correlation between measurement and evaluation data.
