Authors Abstract
Content
This paper describes some of the tests of naval diesel engines in the Internal Combustion Engine Laboratory at the U. S. Naval Engineering Experiment Station, Annapolis, Maryland. Results are presented from engine endurance tests under cyclic operation of load and speed, cold starting of high speed engines, bench and engine tests of full flow lubricating oil filters and snorkel operation of 2-cycle submarine type diesel engines. Suitability and endurance tests simulating Fleet service conditions have been satisfactory for performance evaluations, determination of wear rates, maintenance and overhaul schedules and establishing operating techniques and methods.
