- Most of the modern diesel engines are using advanced technologies to comply with stringent emission requirements which become even stricter over the years. This paper discusses the usage of intake throttling to assist NOx reduction during emissions cycle in non-regeneration mode on a light duty diesel engine equipped with VNT turbocharger and an EGR system. This idea is first investigated by a 1D engine simulation software GT-POWER. Subsequent dyno runs were performed to validate the analysis results. Successful usage of the throttle body to increase the external EGR, thus reducing NOx emissions is demonstrated at part loads.
