This presentation centers on a proof of concept of SAE J3327, a standard for creating a digital traceability record for electric vehicle (EV) batteries. The presenters have been leading the development of the standard, which harmonizes with the European Union’s Digital Product Passport for batteries. It establishes a consistent vocabulary and procedure for creating a digital record of important battery information including critical mineral sourcing, processing and manufacturing of cells and packs. The standard has a publication date of fourth quarter, 2025 and will be accompanied by this technical paper. The paper guides users through mapping the battery supply chain, which is characterized by complexity: multiple locations, mixing of materials, numerous processing and manufacturing steps.
