This paper illustrates an approach for training of common cockpit procedures and tasks through the use of a touch-screen Cockpit Procedures Trainer (CPT) to augment more expensive traditional methods. Today's training organization is continuously challenged to deliver the highest quality training solutions at increasingly competitive rates. Simultaneously, commercial aviation has trended toward advanced avionics displays, creating additional time demands for effectively training pilots and crews on these complex avionic systems. A proven, systems training environment dictates a "hands-on" approach to effectively meet this training need. Current solutions are inadequate however, as simulator and aircraft availability are both limited and expensive. In addition, traditional cockpit training devices are aircraft-specific and costly to build and maintain. The solution is a versatile, multi-platform instructional device that is inexpensive to build and easily upgradeable. The touch-screen CPT presented in this paper provides a solution to these problems. With this device, students will have the opportunity for multi-aircraft cockpit familiarization and procedure practice in a safe and affordable environment. Through the utilization of these high fidelity CPT's, available aircraft time is spent on flight ops rather than on procedure practice and cockpit control familiarization.
