Abstract

Content: A 600 horsepower Mobile Dynamometer and Absorption Trailer have been developed for the U. S. Army's Aberdeen Proving Ground. The testing of military vehicles for tractive power, resistance to towing, and braking capacity presents unique requirements for the test vehicles. Design criteria for continuous testing between 1/2 KMH (.31 MPH) and 90 KMH (56 MPH) resulted in a design of an electric drive system with only one high-low gear range.
