Content
This paper deals with the application of a natural gas direct injection spark ignition single- cylinder engine model.
The research scope includes the air flow characterization during compression stroke and also the charge stratification. Piston bowl effects are analyzed during the gas jet deflection towards the spark plug (wall-guided effect) in order to guarantee the charge stratification in this region, as well as an equivalence ratio which will result in the mixture combustion.
The influence of two different swirl ratios in the parameters discussed above is analyzed.
The goal is to obtain the evolution of the methane concentration in the cylinder during the gas jet development and the compression stroke. This result is an important reference to determine parameters such as the start of injection and the spark plug position so it could be applied in order to avoid the misfire occurrence.
