“Rapid Proto-duction” of the Apache Video UAS Intelligence Teaming–Level 2 (VUIT-2)

The Rapid “Proto-duction” process starts with concept development of maturing technology and a detailed prototyping process that is designed with production as the end state. Carefully stated program objectives and defined design criteria coupled with a carefully managed configuration process allow for a strong “proto-duction” plan. Anticipated challenges as well as risk reductions to proto-duction efforts synergized together with Program Office “enablers” in an accelerated process allows program leaders the flexibility to optimize the design and subsequently the product within critically short timelines. Testing based on developmental test objectives, acceptance test procedures (ATP) and airworthiness qualification requirements allow a Combined Test Team (CTT) to optimize the test program and reduce risk to schedule while prototyping improvements based on test results and issues for early Preplanned Product Improvements (P3I). Training packages and technical manuals delivery are critical at unit installation location, and early start to “spiral” efforts is important to increasing capabilities of the newly fielded system for the soldier.
