Large Area Liquid Crystal Display for Automotive Application

AEG-TELEFUNKEN have developed to the latest technology a liquid crystal display in a large format for an automotive instrument cluster. The instrument with a size of 300 mm x 150 mm x 15 mm consists of one single display with integrated driver ICs, soldered directly to the glass substrate, a lighting system for operation at night and separately mounted evaluation electronics. This paper describes design considerations, electrooptical measurements and technological details of this new product.
