A variety of intelligent vehicle-highway systems (IVHS) or advanced technologies are currently being examined as one approach to improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the transportation system. The use of a wide range of IVHS technologies may result in the improved delivery of transit services, enhanced customer information, and improved management capabilities Currently, transit systems in Texas and throughout the country are considering and implementing a variety of advanced technologies. This paper provides an overview of the application of IVHS technologies to public transit and describes some of the specific projects being planned and implemented in Texas.
