Authors Abstract
Content
The latest concept of pusher type articulated busses needs thorough investigations in the dynamic behaviour of the vehicle. Kässbohrer developed an articulated unit with "Schenk" coupling for dynamic testing.
An integrated braking system allows full control of the horizontal movements between the two bus-bodies. Critical driving situations were simulated, up to the limits of the system. The most critical situations are: accelerating and braking on low friction surface and swerving at high speeds. It can be shown that all conditions can be controlled through the correct application of the braking system in the coupling. The system seems to be suitable for a wide range of service conditions for articulated busses.
