In this study, Investigation of atomization characteristics and prediction accuracy of hybrid models for high-pressure diesel fuel sprays is performed. To analyze the atomization characteristics numerically, hybrid breakup models that are composed of primary breakup and secondary breakup are used. To model the primary breakup, KH model and turbulence induced breakup models are selected, and RT model, DDB model, and TAB model are considered for the secondary breakup. Comparing with the experimental results and calculated results, the prediction accuracy of hybrid models that show relative good agreement with the measured results by using the phase Doppler particle analyzer and spray visualization system
In order to evaluate and verify the accuracy of prediction of the hybrid models, the comparison of spray development, spray tip penetration, the distribution of droplet size, and the temporal and spatial distribution of droplet breakup are investigated under the various injection conditions.
