- The wide spread application of lithium ion batteries for use in portable electronics to power tools to electric vehicles have resulted in need for the development of new functional based electrolytes. One critical function of a lithium ion battery electrolyte is to provide additives and solvents that aid in the formation of a solid film that forms on the electrodes, known as the Solid Electrolyte Interphase (SEI). One critical function of a lithium ion battery electrolyte is to aid in the formation of an effective Solid Electrolyte Interphase (SEI) layer on the electrode surfaces. The most commonly used additive for SEI formation on the anode is vinylene carbonate (VC). In this poster, a new SEI additive that can act as a replacement for VC will be presented.
