In this ever competitive marketplace with its escalating costs, it is extremely difficult yet vitally important to properly support products in the field. Supporting a mature helicopter fleet is vastly different from supporting a mature fleet of copy machines. The complexity of operating an aircraft, such as a helicopter, requires an accurate and comprehensive support system. This support system includes a direct line back to the manufacturer and involves constant updating to ensure safety and efficiency. One of the keys to a successful support system is the development and maintenance of Publications, Training, and Logistic Support Analysis. One method of providing the quality service in these areas at a reasonable price is to combine the three functions under a single first level manager. This manager can establish priorities and move expertise where and when it is needed. There are certainly advantages and disadvantages to this approach, however it allows the manufacturer to meet the significant demands in these areas with a reduced, more efficient workforce.
