Goodrich Corporation (GR) has integrated its Health and Usage Monitoring System (HUMS) Ground Station (GS) with a feature-rich Maintenance and Configuration Management (MM/CM) System called Sapphire, produced by Aerosystems International in an effort to provide Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM) practices. As a result of this integration the combined system is capable of automatically performing a near real-time assessment of the health of the aircraft and parts to provide more accurate readiness indicators, automatically identifying maintenance required due to excessive flight conditions and automatically scheduling maintenance due to incremental usage accrual. The integration of the two systems was accomplished through the use of component-based technology, which provides many benefits such as core application independence, selective deployment and separation layer isolation. The application integration was designed to create co-dependence. The HUMS GS is dependent on the Sapphire MM/CM system for the aircraft configuration hierarchy, current aircraft status, current aircraft weight & balance information, detailed maintenance tracking, and historical knowledge of operational and health metrics for the airframe and installed parts. The Sapphire MM/CM system is dependent on the HUMS GS for flight identification and duration, operational and health metric values for each flight, and automatically generated faults due to operational and health exceedances.
