Integration of Engineering Decisions Through Electronic Data Processing

In order to provide a framework for the discussion of the integration of engineering decisions through the application of electronic data processing equipment it appears advisable to summarize the problem. The panel moderator, Lt. Colonel Hansen, indicated that the helicopter due to the present state of the art – was subject to frequent design and engineering changes. Except for safety of flight changes, economic limitations are, in effect, the counterbalance for applied judgment in the approval of changes. Such changes may affect helicopters scheduled for production (including the effective installation point) and/or the modernization of helicopters previously produced and delivered to the buyer-user. The three industry representatives, Messrs. Bernsen, Holt and Diehl, discussed the influence of engineering decisions on Manufacturing, Sales and Financial Management, and Spare Parts and Maintenance Management.
