In recent years, wireless sensor networks have demonstrated efficacy in structural health monitoring for rotorcraft. Despite the utility of these networks, they have yet to become a standard part of on-board health and usage management systems (HUMS) for rotorcraft. For instance, recent LORD MicroStrain network deployments on rotorcraft run as separate parallel data collection systems irrespective of the on-board HUMS. The benefits of system integration include enabling wireless network control based on data collected by the HUMS, centralizing data storage on the HUMS where a significant portion of data is already stored, and allowing the use of existing ground based infrastructure. Work presented here focused on integrating a LORD wireless sensor network with a Goodrich IVHMU.
